Claire Foxton is an Australian artist and designer who is most known for her large body of public art found across Australia, New Zealand and the United States. With a distinctive mix of abstract and realistic techniques, Claire’s painted mural works explore a site specific narrative often concerned with the connectedness of people and place.

Title: Native treasures

My work responds to the brief directly through site-specific references, layered compositions and a bold colour palette.

The viewer is taken on a journey of discovery: abstracted shapes and cut-outs referencing flora and fauna found in local nature reserves and waterways dance around more realistic subject matter; playful hand drawn lines and gestural mark making disrupt the design and lead the eye along the work in an interactive way; warm and cool colours interplay, referencing the meeting of land and sea; and loose, organic shapes reflect Frankston and The Mornington Peninsula’s casual coastal lifestyle.

The layered approach to the work encourages repeat discoveries and interactions relating to the concept of Dwell in more than one way – by encouraging reflection on the place they call home, and by simply pausing to take in the many overlapping elements of the design.
