The ultimate playground is coming to Karingal Hub as part of our new Town Square. To celebrate, we invited kids in the community to imagine their dream playground! See their amazing creations brought to life by local illustrator Mel Matthews.
"The park’s main attractions will be a massive tunneled slide, and next to that there’s going to be a gigantic swing set and to get to the slide there will be stairs, a ladder and a climbing frame. On one side there could be a bridge that leads to a rock wall that leads to a flying fox that has a path that can split into either, a sand pit that has mini diggers, or a spinning cup. Under the rock wall can be a little window for little kids to play shops."
Cooper & Aiden, age 11 from Pearcedale
"The ideal playground would cater for younger & older children as well as having features like climbing walls, flying Fox's & courts so teens & adults can participate. It is safe and secure especially the younger children's area to be fenced. It should incorporate natural play elements like sand and water play as well as incorporate Aboriginal culture and local community input. Most of all it should bring the community together to have fun, offer lots of variety, activity, shaded space to sit and a giant slide."
Leilani, age 7 from Seaford
"Our dream playground would have an oversized hamster wheel, heaps of kids could run in it at once. It would have bright big flowers and trees so we could feel really small in the space and some climbing ropes or a bridge between the tree stumps would be awesome. A big slide would be cool, built into a huge mountain so we have to hike up the hill before sliding down. Oooh bugs too, big cute bugs like ladybugs we could climb on. I hope my big sister would play with me at the playground!"
Kenzy, age 5 from Frankston
"My dream playground would have swirly slides, a pointy roof, trampolines, mermaid statues, painted shells and sea animals on the sides. The background is green, aqua, turquoise, blue, light blue and dark green. There is a waterfall, a ninja warrior course, secret tunnels which lead to treasure chests filled with treasure and little islands with palm trees. There are waves leading to the palm tree island. There’s a water playground with fake whales that have water coming out of the holes in their heads. That is what my dream playground would have."
Ivy, age 7 from Frankston
"My dream playground would have a big arch way entry with lights and music, a climbing wall, a mini flying fox over a squishy blow up pillow. There would also be a touch wall with different sensory objects for kids to hit, push and touch and, glittery water tiles on the ground for kids to step and jump on. The playground would have either a climbing frame, balance beam or stepping stones to practice balancing. At the top of the stairs, there would be a cubby house with a flag on the top that reads "Let's Play!", a double slide coming out the end and some wobbly mirrors."
